Quest for Candyland – A Tribute to Mikey


Every year, I create a Random Acts of Music birthday mix for my baby brother, Mikey. It’s one of the hardest mixes to put together, not because of the music, but because of the memories. We lost Mikey in 2016. He was far too young, and the weight of his absence never gets lighter.


This mix is a conversation—songs that remind me of him, of us, of the things I wish I had said, and the things I still whisper to the sky. It’s a celebration of his life, his laughter, his big heart, and his love for music. But it’s also a space for grief, for healing, and for remembering the journey we walked together.


Mikey had a tough start, and life didn’t always deal him the best hand. He struggled with addiction, abusive relationships (both with substances and with people), and a battle for self-worth that many of us understood too well. He was on a better path before he met someone who led him astray, and I still ache for the life he could have had. But through it all, he remained my sweet, sensitive, hilarious little brother—the one with the best laugh and the brightest smile.


Not a day goes by that I don't miss him and wish we had more time with him. 

This mix is for Mikey. 


So, here it is. Quest for Candyland. A mix of our favorites, a journey through memories, and a way to keep his spirit alive.
