Baby's On Fire!

Updated: Apr 2

🔥 Babes on Fire 🔥

March 13, 2024

I often have music playing in my head. My brain just catalogs stuff—it doesn’t matter if I heard it once, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… it will get lodged in there, mix with something else, and live rent-free in my subconscious forever.

That’s exactly what happened with this playlist.

I had a dream within a dream (super Inception-style) where I was making a mix. I woke up in the dream to write it down, only to realize I had no device or paper—pure chaos! Then, when I really woke up, “Baby’s On Fire” was playing in my head, over and over, like the theme song of my day. It kept looping. I think that’s when my Brian Eno binge began.

The result? A Better Than K-Tel Mix—which means this is mostly Indie goodness, sprinkled with delightful randomness. It’s a mix that probably only makes sense in a dream… or to someone who listens to too much music. Either way, here’s the playlist!

Set your reminders!

Eclectic Wonderland Links (Links In Pink!)

Show Notes & The full playlist: {Links Are Pink!}

🎶 First Set: Dreamy Garage Rock & Cosmic Synths

🚀 Automatic – New Beginning

This song makes you feel like you’re starting a new chapter in life—except you forgot what the last chapter was.

💥 POW! – Dream Decay

Exactly what happens when you fall asleep to a sci-fi movie and wake up thinking you’re a robot.

👁️ Surfbort – Open Your Eyes

Surfbort Bandcamp

The moment you realize you’ve been staring at your phone for hours, but your brain is off.

☁️ Evan Blum & Michelle Raitzin – Endless Sky

The sound of floating through space while having an existential crisis—but in a cute way.

🛸 Second Set: Remixes & Synth Magic

🏙️ Automatic – Skyscraper (GUM & Ginoli Remix)

This feels like a slow-motion scene in a neon-lit city where everything is cooler than reality.

🌙 Automatic – Venus Hour (Peanut Butter Wolf Remix)

This song is proof that Peanut Butter Wolf exists in an alternate universe where disco never ended.

✂️ POW! – Scissors

The soundtrack to every chaotic haircut you’ve ever given yourself at 3 AM.

👨‍🎤 POW! – Peter

It sounds like someone just hit the “glitch” button on an 80s video game soundtrack.

💄 Ariel Pink – Lipstick

That one shade you buy, wear once, and then forget at the bottom of your purse for three years.

🤖 Geneva Jacuzzi – Technophelia

The official anthem for when you fall in love with your Roomba.

🔧 Raymond Scott – Lightworks (Instrumental)

If your brain had a factory inside, this would be its theme song.

🔥 Third Set: The Eno Spiral & Other Oddities

🔥 Brian Eno – Baby’s On Fire (2004 Remaster)

The moment you realize your brain has been playing the same song on repeat, and you just accept it.

💀 Brian Eno – Dead Finks Don’t Talk (2004 Remaster)

What happens when a funeral procession accidentally turns into a dance party.

🌸 Lou Reed – Perfect Day

A song so beautiful, it makes you suspicious.

🎭 Os Mutantes – Panis Et Circenses

If a Brazilian carnival and a psychedelic fever dream had a baby.

💫 Stereolab – Cybele’s Reverie

The perfect song for staring at a lava lamp and contemplating life.

🌙 Raymond Scott – NIGHT AND DAY

If a vintage jazz robot gained sentience and started composing.

⏳ Fourth Set: The Existential Spiral

🕰️ David J & Tim Newman – The Clock Becomes an Impersonator of Torture

David J Bandcamp

When time is just an illusion, but deadlines are very real.

🎭 Love and Rockets – Here Come the Comedown (Rough Mix)

That moment of clarity after a weird night out.

🩹 Kilbey Kennedy – That’s Gotta Hurt

Kilbey Kennedy Bandcamp

Like stepping on a Lego but in song form.

🎙️ Kilbey Kennedy – The Demo

The rare moment when the demo is the song.

👻 The Church – A Strange Past

When an old song triggers memories from a past life you’re not sure you had.

🐦 Raymond Scott – Twilight In Turkey (Electronic)

The sound of a mechanical bird leading a parade of confused humans.

🎸 Fifth Set: Strange, Beautiful, & Unexpected

🌊 The Mommyheads – Soul’s Aquarium

If your soul was a fish tank, what kind of fish would be in there?

🃏 Johnny Society – Trust

This song is exactly what it feels like to trust someone, and immediately regret it.

🔥 Beirut – A Candle’s Fire

Beirut Bandcamp

That moment when you light a candle and suddenly your whole apartment feels mystical.

🍋 The Wiyos – Pink Lemonade

Refreshing. Unexpected. A little weird, but in the best way.

💃 Langhorne Slim & The Law – The Way We Move

The dance floor anthem for people who can’t actually dance.

😢 Russ Irwin – I Miss Being Lonely (feat. Steven Tyler)

When loneliness was actually better than whatever relationship disaster just happened.

📖 A.C. Newman – Encyclopedia of Classic Takedowns

The musical version of throwing shade, but with elegance.

☀️ Church of Betty – Wake Up

Church Of Betty Bandcamp

The sound of a morning alarm that actually makes you want to wake up.

🔪 Mr. Forky – Revenge

Plotting revenge has never sounded so charming.

👤 Kaizuu – Shadow Man

Like the theme song for a mysterious figure in a noir film.

💭 People Like Us – Till the End of Time

A dreamy, slightly unsettling lullaby for adults.
