Howdy, folks.
I’m not entirely sure what’s going on today.
Somewhere between a black rainbow, moon monkeys, music from another planet, suspicious robots, a diner that may or may not exist, and waffles with fish heads, we appear to have wandered into some kind of collective dream.
Naturally, Mickey Fingers is narrating.
So that seems fine.
Welcome to Eclectic Wonderland: Dream Logic Part One, a two-hour trip through surreal electronics, dream fragments, psychedelic detours, plunderphonics, strange transmissions, memory glitches, impossible rooms, and the sort of musical logic that makes perfect sense until you wake up.
Dreams have rules.
They’re just usually terrible about telling you what they are.
So today, we’re not asking too many questions.
We’re following the hallway.

Okay.
Before anyone asks, no, I don’t know exactly where we are.
The lights went out. There was a black rainbow. Someone mentioned moon monkeys. The robots have developed musical opinions, the clock is no longer taking its job seriously, and at some point we apparently stopped for waffles and fish heads.
So naturally, everybody decided I should narrate.
Excellent judgment all around.
Here’s what I’ve figured out about dreams.
They’re very confident for places with absolutely no respect for architecture.
A hallway becomes a forest. Someone you haven’t seen in twenty years walks through carrying a sandwich. A machine starts talking to you. The moon behaves suspiciously.
And your brain?
“Sure. Fine. Seems reasonable.”
The strange part comes later, when something impossible suddenly feels familiar.
You walk into a room you’ve never seen before and know where the light switch is.
You hear a sentence you swear you remember, except nobody ever said it.
The dream starts borrowing from you.
Then, eventually, it notices you’re watching.
That’s about where we are.
So I’ve decided not to fight it.
If another door appears, we’re opening it.
If the owl talks, we’re listening.
If somebody offers us waffles...
I’m asking what happened to the fish.

Dream Logic began somewhere completely different.
The original idea grew out of nostalgia, old radio storytelling, television memories, diners, grandparents, nighttime drives, warm kitchens, strange little rituals, and the feeling that stories have always been one of the ways people gather together.
And then the playlist started dreaming.
The deeper we went, the less it wanted to be a nostalgia show.
Songs started opening strange little rooms.
Memories became surreal.
The playful things became uncanny.
The uncanny things became funny.
And somewhere along the way, the show stopped being about remembering the past and became about the bizarre internal storytelling language of dreams.
That felt right.
A lot of my own dreams have that quality: places that seem real while I’m inside them, people who belong there even when they absolutely should not, rooms that connect to other rooms without regard for architecture, and moments that feel like memories even when they never happened.
So instead of forcing the show back into its original shape, we followed it.
That is how Dream Logic Part One was born.
Not really a story.
Not really a dream.
More like an unstory told from inside the dream while it is still happening.
And yes.
There are waffles and fish heads.

The Story Behind Waffles & Fish-Head Café
Before Waffles & Fish-Head Café became a place inside Dream Logic, it was just an inside joke.
A long, long time ago, Mickey Fingers and Celeste Violet were in the studio together, happ-slappy, playing around, making things, laughing at things that probably made considerably less sense to anyone outside the room.
Somewhere in all of that, Waffles & Fish-Head Café happened.
Mickey sent the original piece as a joke.
And then, because this is Eclectic Wonderland and apparently nobody was supervising us, one day it ended up on a show.
That should probably have been the end of it.
Instead, it became one of those tiny shared references that never quite disappeared.
Years later, while we were wandering through the impossible rooms of Dream Logic Part One, there it was again.
Waiting for us.
And somehow, in a show filled with black rainbows, moon monkeys, suspicious robots, ghosts, unreliable clocks, and dreams that remember things before we do...
Waffles & Fish-Head Café suddenly made perfect sense.
That may be our favorite kind of story.
The ones nobody deliberately creates.
They just keep coming back until one day you realize they have become part of the world.

Waffles & Fish-Head Café
Somewhere inside Dream Logic sits a little establishment called the Waffles & Fish-Head Café.
We do not know who opened it.
We do not know why fish heads are involved.
We are not entirely certain it passes inspection.
But apparently, the waffles are excellent.
The café became one of those strange little dream landmarks that nobody planned and everybody immediately accepted.
Which is exactly how dream logic works.
You don’t ask why the café exists.
You sit down.
You order something.
You hope the fish head is optional.

There was a diner.
There were waffles with fish heads.
The clock stopped behaving like a clock.
Someone appeared who may or may not have been a ghost.
And suddenly the dream begins doing something stranger than being surreal.
It begins feeling familiar.
Not remembered.
Recognized.
That peculiar sensation of entering a room you have never seen and somehow knowing exactly where the light switch is.

We have no idea why this feels important.
It does.

As morning creeps closer, the dream starts borrowing.
A face from a movie.
A room you remember.
A sentence you heard years ago.
Something your brain saved for no obvious reason.
The impossible things begin wearing familiar clothes.
And suddenly, it becomes harder to tell which parts belong to the dream...
and which parts belong to you.

This is usually where dreams get nervous.
Rooms overlap.
People appear without entrances.
Voices arrive from nowhere.
The dream realizes you may be waking up and quietly begins dismantling the set.

Before we wander out of the dream, we wanted to leave a little light on for Dolly Parton.
A songwriter. A storyteller. A wit. A philanthropist. A woman who somehow managed to be completely unmistakable while making millions of people feel welcome.
Her songs became pieces of people’s lives, but her kindness traveled just as far.
Some voices become part of the landscape.
Dolly’s was one of them.
Thank you for the songs, the stories, the laughter, the books, the rhinestones, and the enormous heart.

Mickey’s Final Word
We made it.
Or we woke up.
Mickey remains unconvinced there is much difference.
Either way, Dream Logic Part One leaves the door cracked open.

We’ve been building more than a few strange little doors lately.
Some of them are already open. Some are still flickering in the hallway.
Before life went sideways for a bit, we had several show notes, experiments, and little pieces of the Velvet Umbrella universe in progress, including the three-part show from last week and another Petals & Hooks page.
They’re still coming.
Nothing disappeared.
We just had to let the studio breathe for a minute.
Consider this your friendly reminder that a work in progress is still work worth loving.
We’ll keep opening the doors as we finish them.
Meanwhile, Through the Other Doors…
Oh Shitaki! brought the bright, weird, electronic side of Eclectic Wonderland back into focus: dancing mushrooms, cheerful oddities, questionable decisions, and music that wandered in without an appointment.
Then After the Static moved into darker air with shoegaze, dream pop, darkwave, ambient drift, and cathedral echoes for everyone still awake.
And over at Velvet Umbrella Radio | Petals & Hooks, things got considerably less polite.
Fuck This Playlist became more
than four hours of screaming with us
into the void: loud, explicit, furious,
funny, cathartic, and completely unfiltered.
For anyone who needed the opposite
kind of release, we also opened another door.
No Exit: Corridors One & Two offers two separate four-hour journeys into ambient spaces, distant signals, liminal rooms, and slower frequencies.
Eight hours total.
One door for letting it out.
Another for letting go.
Some weeks the universe hands you mushrooms.
Some weeks it hands you static.
Some weeks it hands you a playlist to scream into.
And sometimes…
it just leaves the corridor lights on.
