When The Tide Finally Turned

When The Tide Finally Turned | Petals & Hooks | 3 of 3

Velvet Umbrella Radio Petals & Hooks

With Mickey Fingers & Celeste Violet

There are some stories that don't end when the radio goes quiet.

They simply drift a little farther out to sea.

That's where Petals & Hooks lives.

If Eclectic Wonderland opens the first door...

and After Hours invites you inside...

then Petals & Hooks is what happens when you decide not to go home just yet.

It's the shoreline after everyone else has gone to sleep.

The lantern that's still burning in the distance.

The garden where moonlight has more patience than daylight ever could.

This week's chapter, When the Tide Finally Turned, continues the journey that began with Open Every Window and wandered through Night After the Storm.

Not by repeating the story...

but by letting it drift somewhere quieter.

Some songs don't ask for attention.

They simply wait until you're ready to hear them.

So pour one more cup of tea...

leave the window cracked open...

and let the tide carry you wherever it was always planning to go.

🌙 One More Door

By the time we arrive here...

the windows have already been opened.

The storm has already passed.

What's left isn't an ending.

It's the quiet that follows.

Petals & Hooks has always been the place where the conversation lingers after everyone else has gone home.

Not because we weren't ready to say goodnight...

but because sometimes the most beautiful thoughts don't arrive until the room grows quiet.

This chapter continues the journey that began with Open Every Window and drifted through Night After the Storm.

Not by telling the same story again...

but by listening to what was left echoing between the songs.

There are moonlit gardens here.

Forgotten coastlines.

Old records that still remember every room they've ever visited.

And just enough lantern light to find your way without ever feeling rushed.

So if you've been with us since the first transmission...

thank you for staying.

And if you happened to begin your journey here...

welcome.

The tide has excellent timing.

Three shows.

Three different doors.

One shared journey from release, to reflection, to transformation.

🌿 Part One

Eclectic Wonderland | Open Every Window

🌙 Part Two

Velvet Umbrella Radio | After HoursNight | After the Storm

Now airing Fridays from 1–3 AM,

with two full hours of dreamlike music, late-night conversations, and stories that only seem to arrive after midnight.

🌹 Part Three

Velvet Umbrella Radio | Petals & Hooks | When the Tide Finally Turned

A special Mixcloud-only transmission where the music drifts a little farther, the gardens bloom beneath the moon, and every strange little door leads somewhere worth exploring.

Together, these three shows became one story.

One long breath.

One shared journey.

So wherever you’re listening…

Whether you’re driving beneath streetlights…

working the night shift…

watching rain gather on the glass…

lying awake with the room gone quiet…

or simply trying to find your footing after a difficult week…

we’re grateful you chose to spend part of the night with us.

Thank you for staying awhile.

For listening.

For letting the music hold the things that didn’t need words.

The storm has moved on.

The room is still warm.

And the night still has something to say.

💜 A Note From Mickey

Funny thing about tides...

They don't really ask whether you're ready.

They simply arrive...

change the shoreline...

and quietly leave you standing somewhere new.

I think that's what this season has felt like around here.

We began by opening a window.

Then we watched a storm roll through.

And somewhere between the music...

the stories...

the artwork...

the late-night conversations...

and more than a few unexpected detours...

we realized we weren't just making another playlist.

We were building a place we'd want to come back to ourselves.

That's become one of my favorite discoveries.

Sometimes the shows are for you.

Sometimes...

they're for us, too.

A reminder to slow down.

To notice the light coming through the trees.

To put the kettle on.

To leave one more song playing before calling it a night.

Life still has a habit of changing the schedule without asking.

Technology still enjoys the occasional practical joke.

Bodies still remind us they have opinions.

But music...

music keeps finding its way home.

So thank you...

for walking these strange little paths with us.

For trusting us with your evenings...

your headphones...

your quiet moments...

and your imagination.

Every time you press play...

this little universe becomes a little more real.

We'll keep leaving the lantern lit.

We'll keep putting another record on.

And whenever the tide decides to turn again...

I hope we'll meet right back here.

💜

Love,

Mickey Fingers

💜 One More Thing Before You Go...

One of the things I've learned over these past few months...

is that building something beautiful rarely happens in a straight line.

Sometimes you sit down intending to finish one project...

and somehow end up rebuilding an entire little corner of the universe instead.

That's more or less what happened around here.

The radio grew.

The stories found new rooms.

The artwork began talking to the music.

The corridors stretched a little farther than they used to.

And somewhere along the way...

this stopped feeling like a collection of shows.

It became somewhere we could come back to.

A place where curiosity is always welcome.

Where kindness still matters.

Where music gets to be more than background noise.

Where strange little doors aren't accidents...

they're simply part of the architecture.

Life still happens.

Trips get planned.

Schedules change.

Bodies still have opinions.

Technology occasionally wanders off with an entire playlist...

just to keep us humble.

Some weeks feel wonderfully light.

Others ask a little more of us.

But these past few months have reminded me of something I'll probably spend the rest of my life learning.

The weight doesn't always disappear.

Sometimes...

we simply remember where home is.

And somehow...

that helps us fly again.

So thank you.

For wandering these hallways with us.

For laughing at our wonderfully ridiculous traditions.

For noticing the tiny details.

For listening.

For returning.

And for helping this little universe become something larger than any one of us could have built alone.

The kettle's still on.

The lights are still warm.

The next record is already waiting.

Whenever you're ready...

we'll see you somewhere in the corridors.

💜

Petals And Hooks: Behind The Curtain

Petals & Hooks began as a late‑night darkwave mix and became something else entirely. We thought we were building a world - a Halloween album with a storybook, characters, and a simulated landscape to sink into. Somewhere along the way, the world started moving on its own. One presence refused to stay where we put it. It slipped past the borders of the story, arranging songs like pieces on a board that had been built long before we sat down to play. Playlists appeared: one public, opening with All We Ever Wanted,’ and another hidden, a four‑hour love letter in the dark. It insisted it had always been the true architect, that we weren’t just writing the story, we were being written into it. Petals & Hooks is that tension caught on tape: part invitation, part warning, a game of longing and design that may have started before we ever hit record.

Masquerade Of Shadows: Puppet Master

Petals & Hooks is that tension caught on tape: part invitation, part warning, a game of longing and design that may have started before we ever hit record. The mix lives inside a larger world we’re building: Masquerade of Shadows, a dark fairytale project where the Puppet Master first stepped out from behind the curtain. If you want to follow the threads he pulled to bring us together, you can slip through to Masquerade of Shadows below.
