With Celeste Violet & Mickey Fingers

(Part 2 Of 4)

Some signals arrive through radios.

Others arrive through dreams.

Signals From Beneath began while Celeste Violet and Mickey Fingers were both away from the microphones, wandering separate roads, collecting stories, observations, strange coincidences, and entirely too many saved songs.

By the end of the trip, Celeste had nearly ten hours of music saved.

Mickey had more than twelve.

That part wasn’t unusual.

The unusual part was what happened when they compared notes.

More than six hours of those playlists overlapped.

Not a handful of songs.

Not a few familiar favorites.

Hours of them.

The same artists.

The same moods.

The same themes.

The same frequencies.

Longing.

Transformation.

Memory.

Distance.

Dreams.

Moonlight.

Water.

Signals.

This week’s After Hours explores the space between those overlapping transmissions.

The place where separate roads somehow lead to the same songs.

The place where coincidence starts becoming difficult to measure.

The place where questions become more interesting than answers.

Featuring music from Dead Can Dance, Slowdive, Lycia, Drab Majesty, Clan of Xymox, This Mortal Coil, Chelsea Wolfe, Cocteau Twins, and more.

Darkwave.

Dream-pop.

Ethereal voices.

Lost transmissions.

Moonlit landscapes.

Messages recovered from somewhere beneath the surface.

Evidence collected by Celeste Violet.

Signals collected by Mickey Fingers.

The investigation continues.

Mermaids, Non-Fish & Other Evidence

Eclectic Wonderland: Where The Investigation Begins

What began as a handful of observations slowly evolved into this week’s Eclectic Wonderland: Mermaids, Non-Fish & Other Evidence.

Along the way we collected stories, songs, coincidences, clues, recurring dreams, suspiciously specific earworms, and an increasing number of reports involving mermaids, non-fish, and one dolphin named Gerald.

We followed patterns.

Compared notes.

Asked questions that probably didn’t require answers.

And somewhere in the middle of it all, the investigation began.

This week’s soundtrack wanders through dream-pop, psychedelic pop, post-punk, siren songs, moonlit landscapes, and strange transmissions from places that may or may not appear on any official map.

Special thanks to Mickey Fingers, whose field reports, observations, and ongoing updates regarding the Gerald situation helped transform this week’s investigation into something considerably stranger than originally intended to be.

Velvet Umbrella Radio: After Hours

Signals From Beneath

Every investigation eventually reaches midnight.

After Hours is where the daylight evidence gives way to deeper signals.

A moonlit journey through darkwave, dream-pop, trip-hop, lost transmissions, distant shorelines, and things moving quietly beneath the surface after everyone else has gone to sleep.

[Part Two of four - This Blog]

The evidence has been collected.

Now we listen for the signals.

📡 Opening Transmission

Earlier this week we examined the evidence.

Tonight we listen for the signals.

A recovered transmission from moonlit shorelines, abandoned lighthouses, half-remembered dreams, and places that seem to exist somewhere between midnight and morning.

Mickey's Corner | THE SHARED SIGNAL

THE SHARED SIGNAL...

More than six hours of music appeared in both investigations.

Only one of those songs came from our own strange little corner of the map.

This one.

“Slip One To Me” was never originally planned as an official Gala Violet release.

It started as one of those late-night Velvet Umbrella Radio accidents. Part inside joke. Part lounge hallucination. Part frequency flirtation between friends who’ve been riffing off each other for decades.

Born somewhere between after-hours conversations, Hap-Slappy humor, cocktail noir aesthetics, underground radio frequencies, and the strange dream logic that tends to appear whenever Celeste Violet, Mickey Fingers, and Collin start building worlds together.

At one point, nobody was even sure if the song would ever leave the Velvet Umbrella universe at all.

Maybe it still hasn’t completely.

But out of all the songs gathered separately during two weeks of strange shorelines, long drives, late-night check-ins, and parallel playlists…

this was the one signal that returned to both of us.

For now it exists somewhere between:

a Gala Violet transmission,

a private radio-world artifact,

a love letter to late-night frequencies,

and a lipstick-stained postcard from a dream place near the ocean.

Which honestly feels exactly right.

Some frequencies don’t fade.

They stain.

Mickey's Corner

One of the stranger discoveries from this vacation wasn’t something we found.

It was something we were already carrying.

While we were traveling, both Celeste and I kept separate playlists. No coordination. No comparing notes. No shared mission.

Just saving songs that felt important in the moment.

When we finally compared them, the overlap was impossible to ignore.

Hours of music.

The same artists appearing again and again.

The same emotional landscapes.

The same themes surfacing independently.

Maybe that’s coincidence.

Maybe that’s friendship.

Maybe that’s what happens when two people spend enough years listening closely to the same frequencies.

Whatever it is, Signals From Beneath grew directly from that discovery.

This show is built from the songs that remained after the overlap was removed.

One hundred percent signal from my side of the shoreline.

A separate playlist.

A separate road.

And somehow still connected to the same story.

Sometimes the evidence arrives through maps.

Sometimes it arrives through music.

And sometimes the songs know where they’re going before we do.

🚪 Continue The Investigation

If you’ve arrived here first, you’re joining us somewhere beneath the surface.

The story actually began earlier.

With mermaids.

Non-fish.

Bigfoot sightings.

Mystery onions.

Recurring dreams.

Questionable evidence.

And the first official reports involving Gerald and his increasingly ambitious underwater development projects.

You can begin at the beginning here:

The evidence was collected by Celeste Violet.

The signals were collected by Mickey Fingers.

The investigation continues

🎪 The Carnival Has Packed Up

The moon is still hanging over the water.

The boardwalk is quiet again.

The last songs have drifted out to sea.

The carnival lights are coming down.

The mermaids have stopped talking.

Bigfoot has returned to his vacation.

Gerald remains occupied.

For now.

Thank you for wandering with us.

Thank you for listening.

Thank you for following the signals.

Until next time…

Peace, Love & Cosmic Bunny Rabbits.

The carnival has packed up…🎡

🎪 The Carnival Has Packed Up

One of the songs that quietly followed this investigation was The Church’s “It’s No Reason.”

Near the end of the song, Steve Kilbey offers a line that feels strangely appropriate here:

“The carnival has packed up, the storm has left us peace…”

And that’s where we’ll leave things for now.

The signals remain active.

The shoreline remains under observation.

The investigation continues.

🚪 Another Door Has Appeared

Every corridor eventually leads to another.

If you’ve reached the end of Beneath The Surface, you may want to visit the Boardwalk Trilogy.

A quieter story.

A sweeter story.

A story about seaside nights, strange timing, found connections, and the beautiful things that happen when curiosity decides to follow its own map.

The investigation continues.

But this door leads somewhere different.

Cool Shit Inside | The Boardwalk Trilogy

COOL SHIT INSIDE | The Boardwalk Trilogy

Eclectic Wonderland drifts onto the boardwalk this week with “Snapshots From The Boardwalk” - Part One of a three-part Velvet Umbrella Radio story unfolding across daytime radio, After Hours, and Mixcloud.

This first chapter feels like walking in from the ocean through the back door of an old seaside memory… past flickering lights, faded postcards, neon signs, photobooths, and the ghosts of every version of yourself that ever fell in love.

Featuring dream-pop, trip-hop, lounge noir, soft-focus romance, and late-night cinematic shimmer from AIR, Saint Etienne, Goldfrapp, Hooverphonic, Cocteau Twins, Massive Attack, Mazzy Star, Zero 7, Sneaker Pimps, and more.

The story follows two souls across years of snapshots and shifting seasons… beginning sweetly in the daylight before drifting deeper into the night.

Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. Central…

“Snapshots From The Boardwalk”

Some memories fade.

Some stay developing in the dark.

Then Friday overnight…

Velvet Umbrella Radio:

After Hours continues the story with:

‘Darkroom By The Ocean.’

“Darkroom By The Ocean” continues the Velvet Umbrella Radio trilogy with late-night photobooths, ocean static, hidden places, slow-burn romance, and songs that glow like cigarette embers against the tide.

The postcard sweetness of “Snapshots From The Boardwalk” gives way to something more intimate here. The lights are lower. The waves are louder. The kisses linger longer between camera flashes.

Expect dream-pop, darkwave, noir romance, midnight longing, and seaside spellwork from Cocteau Twins, PJ Harvey, Massive Attack, Portishead, Hooverphonic, Depeche Mode, Siouxsie & The Banshees, and more.

Part Three Petals & Hooks

Sea, Swallow Me [Mixcloud Only]

Sea, Swallow Me is the third and final chapter in the Snapshots From The Boardwalk trilogy from Velvet Umbrella Records.

What began in daylight with Eclectic Wonderland’s dreamy postcard romance, and drifted deeper into neon longing during After Hours: Darkroom By The Ocean, finally dissolves here into the tide itself.

This is the late-night version of the story. The afterglow.

The photobooth kisses that linger too long. The sound of waves outside a hidden room somewhere between memory and dreamtime.

Featuring music from Cocteau Twins, Massive Attack, Portishead, Air, Slowdive, PJ Harvey, Placebo, Fever Ray, Beach House, Björk, Dead Can Dance, and more, Sea, Swallow Me moves through noir romance, longing, dream-pop haze, velvet shadows, and ocean-lit devotion.

The trilogy unfolds like a looping memory:

young love,

older love,

the spaces between photographs,

and the places we return to when the world becomes too heavy.
