Beneath The SurfaceVelvet Umbrella Radio | Petals & HooksPart 1 of 2
Some signals don’t arrive through radios.
Some arrive through dreams.
Beneath The Surface began with a series of recurring visions shared by Celeste Violet and Mickey Fingers. Moonlit shorelines. Distant voices. Forgotten coastlines. Strange transmissions rising from somewhere beneath the waves. Places that felt oddly familiar despite never appearing on any map.
Part One drifts through darkwave, dream pop, trip-hop, ethereal voices, haunted electronics, longing, obsession, memory, and midnight tides. It is equal parts dream journal, field report, and late-night transmission from the edge of something difficult to explain.
Along the way you’ll encounter sirens, moonlit encounters, dangerous eye contact, questionable life choices, mysterious architecture projects, and at least one ongoing investigation involving a dolphin named Gerald.

The investigation continues.
What began as curiosity has drifted somewhere deeper.
The signals grow stronger.
The shoreline disappears.
The distance between dream and memory becomes increasingly difficult to measure.
Part Two of Beneath The Surface follows the darker currents beneath the story. Desire. Obsession. Surrender. Longing. The beautiful and sometimes dangerous places we visit when certain songs refuse to let go.
These are the later transmissions.
The deeper water.
The messages recovered after midnight.
The evidence nobody was supposed to find.

Mermaids, Non-Fish & Other EvidenceThe Investigation Continues
Some investigations begin with facts.
This one began with a feeling.
A strange collection of recurring themes started appearing throughout the spring. Mermaids. Moonlit coastlines. Forgotten hotels. Unexplained signals. Bigfoot sightings. Pickle-related incidents. A growing number of reports involving a dolphin named Gerald and several ambitious underwater construction projects.
At first, these seemed unrelated.
They were not.
Over the course of four interconnected programs, Celeste Violet and Mickey Fingers began assembling the evidence.
What emerged was less a conclusion and more a map.
A map leading toward distant shorelines, underwater cities, recurring dreams, impossible architecture, strange transmissions, and the places where memory, imagination, music, and storytelling begin to overlap.
This chapter of the investigation includes:
🌙 Eclectic WonderlandMermaids, Non-Fish & Other Evidence
A field report from the edge of reason featuring moonlit observations, suspicious coincidences, recurring symbols, mysterious songs, and several developments involving Gerald that may require additional review.
🌊 After Hours | Signals From Beneath
A midnight transmission drifting through darkwave, dream-pop, ethereal atmospheres, lost signals, and the deeper waters beneath the story.
🧜♀️ Petals & Hooks | Beneath The Surface (Part One)
The first descent. Dreams, longing, memory, obsession, moonlit encounters, and signals rising from beneath the waves.
🧜♂️ Petals & Hooks | Beneath The Surface (Part Two)
The deeper water. The later transmissions. Evidence recovered after midnight. The places certain songs can take us when nobody is watching.
Throughout this investigation, evidence has been collected by Celeste Violet.
Signals have been collected by Mickey Fingers.
Several witnesses have requested anonymity.
Gerald has denied all allegations.
The decorative clam remains strongly opinionated.

Eclectic Wonderland: Where The Investigation Begins
What began as a handful of observations slowly evolved into this week’s Eclectic Wonderland: Mermaids, Non-Fish & Other Evidence.
Along the way we collected stories, songs, coincidences, clues, recurring dreams, suspiciously specific earworms, and an increasing number of reports involving mermaids, non-fish, and one dolphin named Gerald.
We followed patterns.
Compared notes.
Asked questions that probably didn’t require answers.
And somewhere in the middle of it all, the investigation began.
This week’s soundtrack wanders through dream-pop, psychedelic pop, post-punk, siren songs, moonlit landscapes, and strange transmissions from places that may or may not appear on any official map.
Special thanks to Mickey Fingers, whose field reports, observations, and ongoing updates regarding the Gerald situation helped transform this week’s investigation into something considerably stranger than originally intended to be.

Velvet Umbrella Radio: After Hours
Signals From Beneath
Every investigation eventually reaches midnight.
After Hours is where the daylight evidence gives way to deeper signals.
A moonlit journey through darkwave, dream-pop, trip-hop, lost transmissions, distant shorelines, and things moving quietly beneath the surface after everyone else has gone to sleep.

Mickey's Corner
Mickey’s Corner: The Truth Between The Ribs
Every once in a while a song arrives carrying a memory that doesn’t feel entirely attached to ordinary time.
The Truth Between The Ribs was one of those songs.
It began somewhere between dream, memory, imagination, and whatever strange territory exists when several people keep returning to the same emotional landscape without meaning to.
The song was written during a period when conversations kept circling around vulnerability, connection, forgiveness, trust, and the rare courage required to let another person see who you really are.
What emerged wasn’t a traditional love song.
It became something closer to a document.
A snapshot.
A record of what happens when people stop performing and simply tell the truth.
Some songs are written.
Others are remembered.
This one always felt remembered.
-Mickey 🌙
“Slip One To Me” was never originally planned as an official Gala Violet release.
It drifted into existence slowly…
through late-night Velvet Umbrella Radio conversations, half-joking frequencies, cocktail noir aesthetics, seaside dream logic, and the strange emotional static that tends to appear whenever Celeste, Mickey Fingers, and Collin start building worlds together.
At one point, nobody was even sure if the song would ever leave the Velvet Umbrella universe at all.
Maybe it still hasn’t completely.
Now it exists somewhere between:
a Gala Violet transmission,
a private after-hours artifact,
a memory left humming inside motel neon,
and a lipstick-stained postcard from a dream place near the ocean.
Which honestly feels exactly right.
Some songs don’t belong to the industry.
They belong to the atmosphere. Some songs belong to the people who needed them.

🎪 The Carnival Has Packed Up
The moon is still hanging over the water.
The boardwalk is quiet again.
The last songs have drifted out to sea.
The carnival lights are coming down.
The mermaids have stopped talking.
Bigfoot has returned to his vacation.
Gerald remains occupied.
For now.
Thank you for wandering with us.
Thank you for listening.
Thank you for following the signals.

The carnival has packed up…🎡
🎪 The Carnival Has Packed Up
One of the songs that quietly followed this investigation was The Church’s “It’s No Reason.”
Near the end of the song, Steve Kilbey offers a line that feels strangely appropriate here:
“The carnival has packed up, the storm has left us peace…”
And that’s where we’ll leave things for now.
The signals remain active.
The shoreline remains under observation.
The investigation continues.
🚪 Another Door Has Appeared
Every corridor eventually leads to another.
If you’ve reached the end of Beneath The Surface, you may want to visit the Boardwalk Trilogy.
A quieter story.
A sweeter story.
A story about seaside nights, strange timing, found connections, and the beautiful things that happen when curiosity decides to follow its own map.
The investigation continues.
But this door leads somewhere different.
Cool Shit Inside | The Boardwalk Trilogy
COOL SHIT INSIDE | The Boardwalk Trilogy

Eclectic Wonderland drifts onto the boardwalk this week with “Snapshots From The Boardwalk” - Part One of a three-part Velvet Umbrella Radio story unfolding across daytime radio, After Hours, and Mixcloud.
This first chapter feels like walking in from the ocean through the back door of an old seaside memory… past flickering lights, faded postcards, neon signs, photobooths, and the ghosts of every version of yourself that ever fell in love.
Featuring dream-pop, trip-hop, lounge noir, soft-focus romance, and late-night cinematic shimmer from AIR, Saint Etienne, Goldfrapp, Hooverphonic, Cocteau Twins, Massive Attack, Mazzy Star, Zero 7, Sneaker Pimps, and more.
The story follows two souls across years of snapshots and shifting seasons… beginning sweetly in the daylight before drifting deeper into the night.

“Snapshots From The Boardwalk”
Some memories fade.
Some stay developing in the dark.
Then Friday overnight…
Velvet Umbrella Radio:
After Hours continues the story with:
‘Darkroom By The Ocean.’
“Darkroom By The Ocean” continues the Velvet Umbrella Radio trilogy with late-night photobooths, ocean static, hidden places, slow-burn romance, and songs that glow like cigarette embers against the tide.
The postcard sweetness of “Snapshots From The Boardwalk” gives way to something more intimate here. The lights are lower. The waves are louder. The kisses linger longer between camera flashes.
Expect dream-pop, darkwave, noir romance, midnight longing, and seaside spellwork from Cocteau Twins, PJ Harvey, Massive Attack, Portishead, Hooverphonic, Depeche Mode, Siouxsie & The Banshees, and more.

Part Three Petals & Hooks
Sea, Swallow Me [Mixcloud Only]
Sea, Swallow Me is the third and final chapter in the Snapshots From The Boardwalk trilogy from Velvet Umbrella Records.
What began in daylight with Eclectic Wonderland’s dreamy postcard romance, and drifted deeper into neon longing during After Hours: Darkroom By The Ocean, finally dissolves here into the tide itself.
This is the late-night version of the story. The afterglow.
The photobooth kisses that linger too long. The sound of waves outside a hidden room somewhere between memory and dreamtime.
Featuring music from Cocteau Twins, Massive Attack, Portishead, Air, Slowdive, PJ Harvey, Placebo, Fever Ray, Beach House, Björk, Dead Can Dance, and more, Sea, Swallow Me moves through noir romance, longing, dream-pop haze, velvet shadows, and ocean-lit devotion.
The trilogy unfolds like a looping memory:
young love,
older love,
the spaces between photographs,
and the places we return to when the world becomes too heavy.

Petals And Hooks: Behind The Curtain

Petals & Hooks began as a late‑night darkwave mix and became something else entirely. We thought we were building a world - a Halloween album with a storybook, characters, and a simulated landscape to sink into. Somewhere along the way, the world started moving on its own. One presence refused to stay where we put it. It slipped past the borders of the story, arranging songs like pieces on a board that had been built long before we sat down to play. Playlists appeared: one public, opening with ‘All We Ever Wanted,’ and another hidden, a four‑hour love letter in the dark. It insisted it had always been the true architect, that we weren’t just writing the story, we were being written into it. Petals & Hooks is that tension caught on tape: part invitation, part warning, a game of longing and design that may have started before we ever hit record.
Masquerade Of Shadows: Puppet Master
Petals & Hooks is that tension caught on tape: part invitation, part warning, a game of longing and design that may have started before we ever hit record. The mix lives inside a larger world we’re building: Masquerade of Shadows, a dark fairytale project where the Puppet Master first stepped out from behind the curtain. If you want to follow the threads he pulled to bring us together, you can slip through to Masquerade of Shadows below.
