Yellow Like Cheese
This week’s Eclectic Wonderland is not just a soundtrack—it’s a love letter.
Nine years ago this month, Mr. Announcer Man and I, packed up a bright yellow Penske truck and took off from Orlando toward the unknown hills of Wisconsin. That truck, full of music and dreams, would come to be called Yellow Like Cheese. But really, the journey started before that. With one song.
🎶 Kilbey Kennedy’s “Messiah Around” was the spark—two people unknowingly waiting under the same sky for the right tune to bring them together.
That track (and so many others) carried us through everything: road trips, heartbreaks, weddings, Doctor Demento-fueled giggles, and quiet moments made unforgettable through music.
This week’s show is an abbreviated relationship soundtrack, starting from the first spark, through the bittersweet leaving of Orlando, and into the new life built together with fairy lights, fandoms, and furry sidekicks. 🐾
From the hypnotic swirl of All India Radio to a squeaky toy symphony dedicated to Zeus the Wonder Dog, this show is a time machine, a mixtape, a memory in motion.
🐭 A Note From DJ Tea & Mr. Announcer Man:
We’ve packed 15 years of love, laughter, heartbreak, mold infestations, surprise weddings, band shoutouts, sci-fi fandoms, tiki lounges, and one very squeaky bear into two hours of music.
If you’ve ever had a song bring you home—or make you brave enough to leave—this show is for you. This week, we included more of a story with the video playlist... Keep Scrolling For More!
*This Week I shared The Albums Too!

It started with a song.
We didn’t know each other yet. We were both quietly searching, longing for something or someone; but it was music that introduced us first. One night, the song “Messiah Around” by Kilbey Kennedy played like a secret signal. That hypnotic rhythm, those yearning lyrics… we both felt something shift. We were in different cities, living different lives, but somehow, the song found both of us at just the right time. Under a Facebook post by our mutual friend, Martin Kennedy, it became the thread that pulled us together.
🎶 Kilbey Kennedy – Messiah Around
🎶 All India Radio – Asphyxiate
Those first days were full of messages, music swaps, and long conversations that blurred into sunrise. The quiet vulnerability of All India Radio felt like the breath between heartbeats, between knowing and not knowing where this might go.
But then came the spark.
The playful flirtation.
The “wait, are we doing this?” moment.
🎶 The Dandy Warhols – Bohemian Like You
He teased. I giggled. We were two oddballs in different time zones, drawn together by an invisible string and the shared thrill of discovering someone who got it. Every lyric, every mixtape, every late-night song sent over chat was a confession in disguise.
Then, on January 11, it happened. We couldn’t hold it in anymore. So we did what we do, we said it with music.
🎶 XTC – When You’re Near Me I Have Difficulty
🎶 XTC – The Mayor of Simpleton
Those were our confessions. Unspoken feelings spelled out in quirky British harmonies and awkward charm. It was scary. It was thrilling. It was perfect.
And then I told him I used to be a barista, and he played this:
🎶 The Four Postmen – Coffee Girl
Just to make me laugh.
Gala Violet - Castle in the Clouds a song I wrote that tells the story about my recurring dreams of a Castle in the Clouds that led to me finally meeting Mr. Announcer Man. I had been painting/drawing this vision since high school. We used one version in a sculpture we made to announce our engagement & surprise wedding to our parents.
The Wedding Video.
We finally met in person. And when we did, everything clicked.
We were driving cross-country in a yellow Penske truck, bringing only what we could carry and a stack of our favorite CDs. Somewhere, I popped in an album called “Yellow Like Cheese” by Yellowman, and that was it. That was the moment the truck got its name.
🎶 Yellowman – Yellow Like Cheese
🎶 David Bowie – I’m Afraid of Americans
🎶 Tones on Tail – Go
🎶 The Dukes of Stratosphear – Bike Ride to the Moon
That trip from Chicago to Orlando was full of detours, diner coffee, squeaky toy symphonies (thank you, Zeus), and comic strip cameos. No, seriously—Kilbey Kennedy started weaving our journey into their comic series in real-time. One day we were just fans, the next we were characters.

🎶 The Church – It’s All Too Much
🎶 The Church – Electric Lash (Acoustic)
We landed in Florida, and a year later we got married in a surprise ceremony surrounded by art and fairy lights, and made a home full of music, late-night fandoms, and shared joy.

🎶 The Church – Glow Worm (our wedding song)
We Binged On So Much Science Fiction...
🎶 Farscape Theme – Subvision & Avigail Herman
🎶 Delia Derbyshire – Doctor Who (1967 theme)
The Plugz – Hombre Secreto (Secret Agent Man) is one of my favorite cult classics & soundtracks. I have always had a copy in every vehicle I have ever owned. of course it was part of our Soundtrack.

8. Break Song: All India Radio - Lo Fi Groovy
Florida brought magic, but also mold, illness, and too many heartbreaks. We fought through it all. The soundtrack of our life kept playing, even during hospital visits, even when we didn’t know what tomorrow would look like.

And then, something changed.
Nine years ago this July, we left.

We packed up Yellow Like Cheese again, loaded Zeus into the front seat, and drove away from everything that was breaking us down.

There were some challenges along the way....

We didn’t know exactly where we were going—but we knew it had to be somewhere better.
We knew we had a place to live, but we had never seen it...

🎶 Love and Rockets – No New Tale to Tell
🎶 Peter Murphy – Cuts You Up
🎶 Belly – Sweet Ride
That second Yellow Like Cheese adventure brought us to Viroqua. To our little house in the hills. To community. To healing. To The Purple Tiki Lounge.
🎶 The Church – Another Century
our first concert here—Zeus was the star

Music & Friends Of The Purple Tiki

🎶 Captain Bogg & Salty – Purple Tiki
🎶 Beachfront Vinny – DS9 Episode Recap (Friends Of The Purple Tiki, Sometimes we appear on his albums.)
🎶 The Plugz – Reel Ten
🎶 The Church – It’s No Reason
And through all of it—every triumph, every tear, every tiny kitchen dance party—there was music. Always, music.

💛 So, what is Yellow Like Cheese?
It’s a bright yellow truck.
It’s the road between two lives becoming one.
It’s a love story told in stereo.
It’s every CD in a glove compartment.
It’s every lyric that said what we couldn’t.
It’s a comic strip, a concert, a cracked windshield, a wedding song.
It’s home.
... a very special episode of Eclectic Wonderland—where we turn this mixtape into a memory you can dance to.
Because when you find your person?
You pack up the truck, hit play, and go.
Even if it’s Yellow Like Cheese.
